Broads’ Word Ensemble is proud to bring the World Premiere of Robin Rice’s Women w/o Walls to The Lounge Theatres opening November 7th.

Broads’ Word Ensemble made a splash with their inaugural production, Fifty Shades of Shrew, at the 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival (winner Encore! Producers Award). Both critics and audiences agreed, Broads’ Word Ensemble has “theatrical expertise and imagination,” and was recommended by Broadway World, Gia on the Move, Stage Raw, and KPCC.

Broads’ Word Ensemble’s sophomore production is sure to be equally riveting and imaginative. Directed by Frances Loy, Women w/o Walls is based on the myth of Charon the ferryman on the River Styx and inspired by Dante’s Inferno and Sartre’s No Exit; Women w/o Walls is an exploration of the fine line between life and death, decision and non-decision, and the intense human experience of connection.  Pamela (Esther Mira – Fifty Shades of Shrew, Victory at Waterloo East Theatre London, and  The Seagull at GITIS, Moscow), a spoiled woman from the Upper East Side, steps onto her first New York Subway train and is confronted by a Nurse (Kristin Carey – Scandal, Hall Pass, Reborning) who quickly makes it clear that all is not as it seems. They are joined by the homeless, deteriorating Inez (Jen Albert – Fifty Shades of Shrew, Ten Acrobats in an Amazing Leap of Faith, and L.A. Times Theatric Critics Choice Fifth of July), and a music obsessed street-wise Tank (Natalia Ochoa – Richard lll at The Globe Theater, La Passion Según Antigona Perez). Through the course of an accelerating journey from the underworld of NYC to the Underworld of myth and legend, the true realization of what this journey entails dawns on them. Each must find a way to fulfill her destiny before the train reaches its destination.

Robin Rice is an award winning playwright whose works include over fifty one-act plays and twenty full lengths that have been performed around the world. Frances Loy is a British director who co-founded the “Leading Light of Pop-Up Theatre” (Time Out London) Theatre Delicatessen, an immersive company that was featured as the future of British Theatre in 2011 by the Observer, UK. Prior to her move to Los Angeles, she also worked on UK tours, London’s West End and at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
